Runco
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Runco ("Runco," "we," "us") is a running app that helps you track runs, follow a personalized plan, and stay motivated with friends. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and store it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We only collect what the app needs to work.
1. Data we collect and why
Location data (GPS)
- What: Your precise GPS location while you are recording a run.
- Why: To draw your route on the map and to measure your distance, pace, and speed. Location is the core of how a run is recorded.
- When: Only while you are actively recording a run. We request location "While Using the App," and we keep recording in the background during an active run so your route continues to record with the screen off or the phone in your pocket. We do not track your location when you are not recording a run.
- Stored: Your route is saved as part of that run in your account so you can view it later. You can delete a run (and its route) at any time.
- We do not sell your location or use it for advertising.
Motion & fitness data
- What: Step count, cadence, and motion activity from your device's motion sensors (Apple's Core Motion / pedometer).
- Why: To count your steps and measure pace and cadence accurately during a run or walk.
Health data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
- What: With your permission, workout data such as heart rate, active energy (calories), and distance, primarily via the Apple Watch app.
- Why: To measure your effort during a workout and to save completed runs to Apple Health if you allow it.
- Health data is never used for advertising and is never sold. Data read from HealthKit is used only to provide the app's features on your device and in your account.
Run & activity data
- Distance, duration, pace, calories, steps, route, and timestamps for each run you record. Stored in your account so you can see your history, streaks, plan progress, and rank.
Onboarding answers & profile
- The answers you give during setup: your goal (for example fat loss or daily activity), experience level, how many days a week you want to run, and optionally your age, weight, goal weight, and target timeline.
- Why: To build a personalized weekly plan and realistic targets for you. You can review these in Settings.
- A handle (nickname) you choose, and a profile photo if you add one.
Account & sign-in data
- Your email address and name, provided when you create an account or sign in with Apple or Google. Authentication is handled by our provider (Clerk).
Social data
- Your friend connections, invite codes you generate, runs your friends share with you, and "cheers." Friends are added only through invite codes you choose to share.
Subscription data
- Your subscription status and purchase history for Runco Pro. Purchases are processed by Apple; subscription state is managed through RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your credit-card or payment details.
2. How we use your data
- To record, map, and measure your runs.
- To build and adjust your personalized plan and targets.
- To show your stats, streaks, achievements, and rank.
- To let you connect with friends and see their activity.
- To provide and manage your Runco Pro subscription.
- To keep the app secure and to fix problems.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your location, health, or motion data for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
3. Where your data is stored & who processes it
Your account data (runs, routes, plans, profile, friends) is stored securely with our backend provider, Convex. We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the app; they process data only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | Purpose |
| Convex | Database and file storage (runs, routes, profile, avatar, plans, friends) |
| Clerk | Account creation and sign-in |
| Apple (HealthKit, Sign in with Apple, App Store) | Health data, sign-in, and subscription payments |
| Google | Sign-in (if you use Google) |
| Mapbox | Rendering the map; your location/viewport is sent to Mapbox to load map tiles |
| RevenueCat | Managing your subscription status |
| OpenWeather | Local weather; approximate location is sent to return conditions near you |
4. Data retention & deletion
- We keep your data for as long as your account exists so the app works across your devices.
- You can delete individual runs at any time.
- You can delete your account from Settings โ Delete Account, which removes your account and associated data. Backups may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
5. Your rights & choices
- Permissions: You control Location, Motion & Fitness, and Health access in iOS Settings and can change them any time. If you turn off location, runs cannot be recorded.
- Access & deletion: You can view your onboarding answers in the app and delete your data as described above.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
6. Children
Runco is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest through our providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
